Dr. Brotea received his Bachelor of Engineering degree with a major in Chemical and a minor in Biochemical from Stevens Institute of Technology graduating with a 4.0 GPA. As an active participant in Stevens’Undergraduate Programs in Technology and Medicine, he was involved in summer clinical studies and garnered numerous academic and research awards. After graduating from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, he continued his training as an orthopaedic surgery resident at Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Brotea completed his subspecialty training as a Spine Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation – Center for Spine Health.
Dr. Brotea is widely published and a frequent presenter at national conferences and symposiums, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He will share his knowledge and experience with the next generation of physicians through his upcoming academic appointment at New York Medical College (NYMC). As Sound Shore Medical Center is a major teaching affiliate of NYMC, he will be actively engaged in SSMC’s residency program as well.
Dr. Brotea’s dual engineering and medical background will offer a unique insight into spinal diseases. He specializes in the conservative and surgical evaluation and treatment of upper and lower back problems including sports and work related injuries, disc herniations, vertebral fractures, scoliosis and arthritic and degenerative spine diseases of the neck and back. Dr. Brotea treats patients of all ages ranging from children and adolescents with spine problems such as scoliosis to older individuals with osteoporotic vertebral fractures.
At the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Brotea worked with world renowned spine neurosurgeons and orthopaedics surgeons and has extensive training in complex spine instrumentation as well as handling spine related tumors and infections. Dr. Brotea also has experience with some of the newest spine surgical interventions including kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty, special minimally invasive surgical techniques with the ability to perform major spine procedures through much smaller incisions, as well as the just recently FDA approved cervical and lumbar disc replacements. |
